9 to 5

Today, I thought I'd try a little experiment.  I've read up on a variety of photo projects you can do and came up with one of my own.  I call it "9 to 5" and it involves taking a photo every hour on the hour from 9:00 to 5:00.  Today's project tells the story of a working artist/photographer on an off day from my regular job.

9:00 A.M.: Usually I get on the computer first thing after breakfast and check my accounts then do some online coursework, but the Internet was being a pain this morning.

10:00 A.M.: When I finally got online, I got to work taking notes and watching tutorials on low light photography.

11:00 A.M.: More computer stuff.

12:00 P.M.: Just before lunch I generally do some exercise.

1:00 P.M.: After lunch, I get to work on another photography project.

2:00 P.M.: A little painting time.

3:00 P.M.

4:00 P.M.: Take a break and read a photo magazine.

5:00 P.M.

This is just another idea for a photography project you might want to try sometime.  If you do, let me know.  I'd like to see it.  Have a great night, everyone!

The Little Things

Sometimes I regret not starting a 365 project this year.  I thought about making it a tradition every leap year as I did my other yearlong project in 2012.  However, I also thought it might be best to focus on my portrait projects.  Still, I like to find the beauty in the everyday things around me so I snapped this with my D90 fitted with my nifty fifty.  Have a great week, everybody!

Work in Progress: Quilt Paintings

Today, I thought I'd share an experiment I'm working on.  Sometimes when I'm working on a painting, I pour out more than I need and have a bit leftover.  It's good quality paint so I'd hate to just toss it out.  I know some people who are quilters and it gave me the idea to use the excess paint to make these "quilt" paintings.  It reminds me of how people use excess fabric or remnants they would just throw out to make these beautiful quilts.  This painting is a work in progress so I have a ways to go yet.  What do you think?

Work in Progress: Phase 2 Complete!

Here's an owl painting I'm working on.  As you can see, it's quite labor-intensive.  After transferring the drawing to the canvas (Phase 1), I painted each section (Phase 2.)  Now, I have to go over each section again.

Well, I'm not sure I'd call it a resolution, but this year I do mean to blog more.  (Look at me!  Two days in a row!)   I was thinking if I did, it would make me want to be more productive and maybe even grow some because I'd want to do and make things worth posting about.  I was posting all the time when I was studying abroad.  I kept an online journal of sorts mostly for myself and family or friends who were interested in what I was up to down under.  I couldn't post pictures, though.  I keep thinking how awesome that would have been, but that's in the past now and the only thing to do now is find some new adventure(s) to document.  In fact, I started a kind of adventure last summer when I officially opened for business.  I still have a lot to learn, not only about making art and photographs, but about business.  I was thinking this blog will be about that.  We'll see.  Feel free to come along and join the adventure that is living a creative life.   That's what I hope it will be.

A Day in the Life: New Year's Day

Happy New Year's, everyone!  I'm trying to start off productive by doing a little photography project.  It's an "A Day in the Life" project, a little glimpse into my world on an off day.  Hope you like it.
