Today is a very big deal at my house. Our community has a big fireworks show for Independence Day every year. Due to the fact that the fourth of July falls in the middle of the week, our celebration had to be held either the weekend before or the weekend after. It was decided it was better to celebrate before the actual holiday rather than after. It was a beautiful day and a very awesome show, but I didn't forget about my project! After the main fireworks were over, my lovely friend Jackie helped me out and wrote with sparklers for me. It took quite a few tries, but we were able to pull it off and before midnight, too! Well, I best be getting back. Have an awesome fourth, all my American friends!

Just a sidenote:
I'm trying to figure out how to make this blog look its best. It looks different on my computer than on others. I'm mostly talking about the width. It looks better if I narrow it down on mine and cut off one of the birds, but on another computer there's a lot of space if I do that. Anyone who has any tips to share, I'd welcome their advice.

Today's theme is birds. This is just a little ATC I whipped up while watching a baseball game. It's also a throwback to how I used to draw birds flying when I was younger. Anyone else?

This isn't all that different from what I'm doing here so it's really cool to see what other people come up with and she has some neat ideas. Just now, I was just listening to music and fiddling around with Photoshop Elements and came up with this. It was just a little experiment. I hope to pick up some new techniques and tricks for digital art as I don't have a ton of experience with it and would really like to get better at it.

Today was a Mystery Box kind of day. You remember my Mystery Box, don't you? (See Day 1) In case you forgot, it's a little wooden box that I put slips of paper in with different media and techniques written on them. On days where what Scalin's book prompts me to do doesn't really fit with my concept or whatever and I don't know what else to do, I can pull a slip from the box and do that. Today it said "tracing." It's from an art journaling book and basically you just trace around different objects. I sat on the couch and grabbed whatever was within reach which included scissors, crayons, a tooth flosser, and a cowbell. Then, I finished it by testing which markers still work. Ta-Da!

This is what happens after a twelve hour plus day. Sometimes, it's all you can do to make your deadline to keep your project going. Today's project is about trying to keep in mind the important things despite all the craziness that goes on sometimes. A friend made me this memo board in college for a Christmas gift and I still use it to keep track of my little notes and stuff. Have a good and relaxing weekend, everybody!

Today's prompt says to create a new traffic sign. I found a place where you can get actual traffic signs made, but that will have to wait for another day. I just got home about an hour ago and am low on time. This sounds like a job for sign generator! These amuse me. Not as much as making something myself, but they do in a pinch. So a special thank you to the folks at http://www.streetsigngenerator.com/download.php for their help tonight.

If you haven't noticed yet, two of my favorite things are coloring and cookies. I've been waiting for the right day to use this idea I've had for this big cookie and that day had finally come in the form of a cookout for a friend's birthday. It took a little while, but I managed to sift out the chocolate chips using a strainer and use them to spell out my message. And yes, it was as delicious as it looks. I wish I could have shared it with you, but you'll just have to go get some Betty Crocker mix and make your own, I guess. Better yet, make some for someone else and share the love. When you make them with love, the calories don't count. (Right?)

In the book, today is black and white day and if that doesn't scream penguins, I don't know what does. Talk about love. They're able to pick out a mate from thousands and thousands and stay with them for life. That and the huddling in below freezing Antarctic snowstorms for months sitting on eggs...

First of all, I just wanted you all to know I just about had a heart attack during the making of this project. I was flipping through my copy of 365: A Daily Creativity Journal when I caught sight of something just under the cover. It was a really big spider who met his or her end when I grabbed my book or set it down in a pile beneath some other books. But don't worry now, it's been taken care of.
Anyway, today's mission was to make something out of instructions you didn't mean to, use materials other than the ones called for, or you can make something out of the instructions themselves which is what I did. In the back of aforementioned book, there are quilling instructions. I decided right away quilling was not for me and cut up the instructions into strips and arranged them on the non-spidery back cover.

Today is Sunday which means it's a day for joining with my fellow 365/366ers for a common-themed project today. (It's also Father's Day so happy Father's Day to all the daddies and daddies to be out there!) This week we're inspired by Jill and her "flora per diem" project featuring flowers. You can check it out here at http://flora365.blogspot.com/. I hadn't known about this project till I saw it on our group page, but it seems to be about photography and flowers and plants in every day situations which I'm all for. It was a bit overcast by the time I got outside to take some photos today, but I think it worked out all right. I was trying to combine the feel of Jill's project and something I saw in another book.

After many failed attempts, hopefully this will post. Today was another one of those uninspired days and I had to put a slip from the box. It said "watercolor pencils" and I just happened to have some in the drawer. They're not my favorite thing to work with so I decided to experiment a little. I saw in a book a technique where you activate the watercolor pencil with marker so I tried that. It seemed to work well in the lower part which is supposed to be a scene inspired by a local lake. I confessed I goofed up a bit towards the top and tried to see what would happened if I used water, too. The end result didn't scan that well and I tried to make it more legible in Photoshop, but I'm still not happy with the result. At least, I finished and am still going 168 days strong.

If you're like me, you are well stocked with notepads and address labels thanks to several charities. You have many more than you will ever use in two lifetimes so why not make some into art?

I've already driven over a hundred miles today. What's a hundred more? It was a light day at work so that means I'll be able to attend Artigras tonight. Before I pack up my wares and hit the road again, I wanted to share today's project with you (and everyone on the interstate!) This is my ride decorated with light blue car marker and a shameless self-promotion at the bottom. Anyway to spread the love, right?
LOVE SOMEBODY! Do you really need to get there sixty seconds faster? They can be annoying sometimes, but traffic laws and speed limits are there for a reason. Just because you can get away with it doesn't mean you should. Love one another and consider the safety of others when you're behind the wheel. Please.

Today, my sketch/doodle actually became today's project. I made a book out of extra paper from other sketchbooks, mixed media paper, and some old record covers I bought at the thrift store. In there, I just jot down ideas for art projects and such. It's a great way to put to use the last few sheets in a pad or some extra copy paper you have lying around.

Victory at last! I've been fighting with the computer and the internet for... I don't even know how long now. At least, long enough to read over a chapter in a book. Anyway, it's Stuff from the Freezer Day as in work with stuff found in the refrigerator or freezer. I ended up with the reminder of a thing of vanilla ice cream and some chocolate syrup on a cutting board. I decided I won't be applying to Cold Stone anytime soon, but here's today's project finally done. It's a bit messy and a little hard to read, but very nom.

Today is Sunday so you know what that means... that's right, it's Inspired by a Friend's Blog day. This week we're inspired by Rebecca's "365 Days of Love" project. You can check it out at http://rebecca-365daysoflove.blogspot.co.uk/. The more people out there trying to spread the love, the better, I say. Not sure this is exactly up to par with her stuff, but after decided to pull a slip from my box of ideas, I ended up with this. The slip said "writing with ink" which is pretty self-explanatory and you can see it yourself right under the v and the e. Instead of simply writing on a new piece of paper, I thought it might be a good idea to use some pieces from a bag of paper bound for recycling. After pasting some bits onto an early draft of a previous project, I just smeared some ink pad and gesso over top before writing out the message in regular black drawing ink.

Back to the book today and it said to work with an old calendar. I hope a couple months ago is old because I tore out the page of my current calendar from April. The markers didn't seem to like the glossy paper much, but here it is. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and love yourself a little bit and take some time off! I know I will!

I think that's a tennis term. About all I know about tennis is you hit the ball back and forth and maybe a few other terms. A friend and I have taken up tennis, you might say, and meet sometimes on an old blacktop court in our town. It's sometimes more chasing than hitting, but we're getting there. Before getting started today, I thought this might be good for a project so I took some green ribbon I bought and weaved it through the net.

It was "one of those days," but tomorrow should be better. After a long and hectic day, it's about time to relax. So when thinking about how to make my project today, I thought about, well, what can I do from the couch? Therefore, my "paintbrush" today was actually the remote control. I hope you've enjoyed some of my parody projects!

Can you read the first line for me? How about the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth? Today, I'm having more fun playing around with poster generators online. I'd like to thank Tom over at eyechartmaker.com for this one. You can find generators for just about everything now, but I'm going to keep some a surprise. Lots more fun to come! Finally, I appreciate each and every one of you who check my blog regularly. I'm hoping to do some projects this summer that involve more people and get this little project a bit more into the open so look out for that. Anybody who would like to participate is more than welcome!

Today, I was just fiddling with a couple different software programs: Print Artist and Photoshop Elements. It's pretty much exactly what it looks like: a hodge podge of filters, fonts, and distortions. One of the things I hoped to do during the duration of this project was experiment a little with digital art. I had a small bit of success with a similar, but far more complex piece like this. It was fun anyway.

So, I'd like to thank Ryland Sanders over at www.says-it.com for making my day today. This web developer in Austin, Texas has created the poster generator I used for my project today. Like I said back on Inspired by Favorite Movie Day, this stuff cracks me up. I love a good parody and hope to spread the message whatever way I can. Enjoy!

Welcome to Fingerprint Day. I thought it would be cool to "dust for fingerprints," but I don't think I have the right stuff for that so I just did this quick project just now using an ink pad and my finger. I won't show you which finger, though, you might be offended. It was kind of boring, actually, so I jazzed it up a bit with a Photoshop filter so it's a little cooler now.

Yep. Another ATC today. This time inspired by the photo on my calendar. Hopefully, things will get a little more exciting around here soon. I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Well, it's been an interesting week. Most of the prompts from the book this week didn't really fit my concept and trying to do something awesome with the time I've had to work with hasn't been that easy. Today was a bit crazy so I decided to do some coloring, one of my go-to activities for decompressing. You should try it some time. It's not just for kids anymore. When, you're older you can buy the really good markers! : )
